The Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) and the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) are pleased to be co-hosting a virtual panel discussion on 20 May from 1-2pm, in the month of World Press Freedom Day, on how human rights are reported and represented in the media.
The panel will be co-chaired by Shoaib M Khan (Chair of HRLA) and Baroness Helena Kennedy KC (Director of IBAHRI), and will welcome leading practitioners, media law academics and legal journalists to discuss the critical role of the media in shaping how human rights are represented, the importance of a free press in exposing human rights violations, and the power and responsibility of the media to hold the powerful to account and advance human rights-based narratives. Speakers will include:
Dr Felicity Gerry KC (Barrister, Libertas Chambers)
Adam Wagner KC (Barrister at Doughty Street Chambers & Founder, EachOther)
Professor Dimitrios Giannoulopoulos, Head of Law School, City St George’s, University of London
