HRLA hosts ‘Climate Change and the Law’ with Lord Carnwath and Jessica Simor KC

In the year where climate change law hit the headlines, with KlimaSeniorinnen v Switzerland in the European Court of Human Rights and Finch v Surrey County Council in the Supreme Court, the Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) was delighted to invite members to an in-person panel event on ‘Climate Change and the Law’ with Lord Carnwath and Jessica Simor KC, on Thursday 10 October 2024 at the Hogan Lovells auditorium, Atlantic House, Holborn Viaduct, London EC1A 2FG.

Lord Carnwath was a justice of the Supreme Court from 2012 to 2020 and a pioneering environmental law barrister before his time on the bench. He is now, amongst other roles, a Visiting Professor in Practice at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.

Jessica Simor KC is one of the leading barristers at the human rights and public law bar, with a particular expertise in environmental law. She was lead counsel before the ECtHR in the landmark KlimaSeniorinnen case, where an international court ruled for the first time that state inaction on climate change breached the applicants’ human rights. HRLA is most grateful to Hogan Lovells for hosting this event.
