HRLA Junior Lawyers Committee hosts another successful Careers Day at Goldsmiths

Careers Day Events

HRLA’s 2024 Careers Day, organised by the Junior Lawyers Committee, took place on Saturday 26 October, and was held at Goldsmiths, University of London. The Careers Day event was primarily aimed at students, prospective lawyers and those interested in a career in human rights law. We are grateful to our headline sponsor, the Department of Law of Goldsmiths, University of London for their generous contribution, and for making Careers Day possible.

A range of sessions were organised for the day, including:

  • A panel session on building a career in human rights law, where esteemed lawyers and activists discussed their journeys into a career in human rights law and shared advice with the next generation of human rights lawyers;
  • A panel session on business and human rights, which discussed making an impact in the spheres of companies and the rights of peoples;
  • A panel session on Indigenous rights in the context of climate change, which focused on work within environmental protection and the rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • A panel session on fostering wellbeing and resilience in human rights work, which explored building resilience and dealing with adversity when doing human rights work; and
  • An invaluable networking session with people who have secured training contracts and pupillage, as well as experienced human rights lawyers.

Interested in learning about how to pursue a career in human rights law?

The HRLA’s annual Careers Days are organised to bring together researchers, practitioners and campaigners to discuss how different sectors of the human rights legal profession can work together to achieve change. Through panel discussions and break-out sessions, these events explore how research, legal advice, litigation, advocacy and other techniques can be used to promote human rights at the local, national, regional and international levels. Speakers and guests also discuss the practicalities of entering the human rights legal profession, and practitioners offer practical tips and insights.
